I lead eBay\'s Emerging Threat and Account Risk team which is responsible for identifying and managing incidents related to developing fraud trends or outbreaks and detecting and managing account take over (ATO) risk for eBay\'s members.Early in my career I worked in internet startups building out the infrastructure the business needed to grow. This gave me an in-depth knowledge of some of internet protocols that helped me understand and mitigate increasingly complex attacks as I transitioned to risk management later in my career. In 2003 the startup which I had co-founded was sold to Digital River and I found myself working for a global e-commerce company which manages e-commerce store fronts for global software, gaming and consumer electronic brands. At Digital River I transitioned from their small business group to their enterprise group with the responsibility of replacing their existing fraud prevention capabilities to support their growth in consumer electronics and gaming.At Digital River I enjoyed the challenges of doing a ground up build of an e-commerce risk management platform and managing the operational transition for their six e-commerce platforms. I also had the opportunity to build a world class fraud operations team that managed fraud risk for clients including Microsoft, Samsung, EA, NCSoft and HTC and operating stores in North America, Europe and Asia.In 2017 I joined eBay\'s risk team which consisted of 20 people as they begin their transition to managing payment risk inhouse. That core team expanded to over 200+ individuals in less than three years as eBay\'s Payment Platform went from zero to being one of the biggest payments platform on the internet. Over this time everyone wore a lot of hats managing risk in a complex environment before settling into the current role.Areas of expertise include: • Policy and operational management of diverse risks associated with e-commerce marketplaces including seller onboarding, checkout, content moderation and account take over. • Monitoring critical business metrics to identify early fraud outbreaks to reduce time to detect and ensuring stable metric performance. • Risk focused analytics and data mining techniques to drive insights from large and complex data sets using SQL and Pandas boosted using machine learning techniques such as supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.
