ABOUT MICHAEL FONSO

Senior aeromedical consultant and examiner with a proven track record in aviation medicine providing aeromedical services to industry stakeholders including airline operators, airports and aircrew. I am Chief Medical Advisor to EasyJet Airline Company Ltd, advising on company medical policy across its 3 European AOCs. I am Head of Birmingham Aeromedical Centre, a UK CAA and EASA-approved centre of excellence, and one of only three centres in the UK authorised to medically certify applicants for an initial commercial aviation certificate. I was Aeromedical Examiner for British Airways and I am a UK certified Family Physician. As a former RAF commissioned Senior Medical Officer, I was Chief Instructor at the RAF Centre of Aviation Medicine. As Senior Medical Officer GP, I led the delivery of a primary healthcare, aviation, occupational and travel medicine service to military personnel and their dependants. I provide advice on aeromedical certification for military aircrew transitioning to civil aviation, having experience of military aviation to include fitness assessments for high performance aircraft. I also have experience of international medicine having worked in the USA, South Atlantic Islands, Asia and various locations in the Middle East where I was employed as Aeromedical Evacuation Coordinating Officer, coordinating all United Kingdom medical repatriations from the entire Middle East (except Afghanistan).
