ABOUT MICHAEL FITZPATRICK FRENG FLSW

I have a highly successful track record in technical leadership, project delivery, change management, mentoring and coaching, and partnership-building. I provide strategic technical advice and leadership to national and international research agencies, government departments, industry, and experimental facilities. I have worked in delivery of large-scale teaching and research programmes, including management of multidisciplinary Higher Education Departments and Facilities with personal budgetary responsibility of over £70M. I have an international research profile, a global network of contacts, and experience of research management that spans income generation, consortium management, and intellectual property.I have extensive experience of non-executive and advisory roles, including membership of the Board of Directors for Diamond Light Source Ltd, the UK’s national synchrotron X-ray facility; the Lloyd’s Register Foundation Advisory Council; participation in and organisation of workshops and missions for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for developing international research links; and assessment of research quality through panel membership in the UK Research Excellence Framework, work for RCUK, and numerous international funding prioritisation panels. I am a Non-Executive Director for Feraru Dynamics Ltd, a University spin-out developing applications to enhance safety in manufacturing and construction; and have been a Director of several University subsidiary companies, overseeing the evolution and growth of the University group\'s portfolio and turnover.
