First in-house Litigation Counsel for a startup telecommunications company, Brightspeed, operating in a 20-state footprint following the acquisition of incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) assets and operations from Lumen Technologies. Responsible for all conveyed Lumen litigation in all states, and all new Brightspeed matters moving forward. Areas of practice include: Complex Commercial Litigation Employment Litigation Environmental Litigation Intellectual Property Litigation Commercial Real Estate Transactions and Litigation Regulatory Compliance and Disputes Privacy Litigation Consumer Litigation and Arbitration State Franchise Tax Litigation Criminal Investigations and Enforcement State Infrastructure and Economic Development Grant Disputes and Litigation Torts Liaison with State and Federal Government agencies. Operate with a high degree of autonomy to provide direct response to case matters as well as comprehensive legal counsel to all corporate departments relating to threatened and pending matters in all territories of operation. Select and manage outside counsel in 20 states of operation. Appear for mediation and arbitration. Audit litigation portfolio and report to financial committees on quarterly projections. Participate in the development and growth of the corporate Legal Department (create work flows, policies, templates); assist in the review and acquisition of new software; develop new cooperate policies in line with company objectives.
