Responsible for resolution of uninsured claims, disputes, litigation, arbitration, mediation, as well as contracting and associated training and deployment of legal skills within project teams. Annual claims related work value is $100M to $250M. Primary focus is on preventing claims, defending against claims, and asserting claims. Secondary focus is on improved contracting and relevant contract/legal training of staff. Metrics include, among others, achieving at least a five-fold return on legal cost/expense (both in-house and outside counsel) while maintaining beneficial relationships. Our in-house legal team includes 6 lawyers, two paralegals and documentation automation staff serving offices nationwide and project work offshore.

ABOUT MICHAEL DUFFY
Domestic and International Design, Construction and Legal Experience in both Vertical and Heavy Civil markets. Experience in heavy civil and building design and construction, both in the private sector and for the government. Led a private-sector, international design practice in Europe, and led private sector Federal Programs for leading design and construction firms domestically. Develops and leads competent teams that pursue, win, plan, design, contract. and construct safely and profitably while managing risk. Presently leads legal and contracting services delivery to project teams, and, all claims and dispute resolution for a major marine construction firm on work from above the arctic circle to Central America. During military service with the US Army Corps of Engineers, held staff and command positions ranging from small unit leader to senior positions at Corps Districts in New York and Illinois, at Corps\' Headquarters, and, on the Army Secretariat and Secretary of Defense staffs in the Pentagon. In separate assignments: led the Humanitarian and Civic Action construction program in Central America; was responsible for 1/5th of the Corps’ domestic military construction program and international work in more than 80 countries; coordinated DoD support to Mexico and Colombia; and, spent a year as an exchange Engineer to the Army of Peru serving under the US Ambassador and on the US Country team. I\'ve provided pro bono legal services to immigrants, citizens and criminal defendants - secured the release of an individual from federal prison, the release of another from federal detention, successfully represented an individual claimant against a non-paying client, successfully represented a woman previously denied relief in her claims against a Texas Independent School District - in all cases never accepting any fees. Main Professional Credentials Licensed Attorney - admitted in VA and US Claims Court Licensed Professional Engineer - NY and TX Certified Project Management Professional LEED Accredited Professional - Building Design & Construction Texas Courts Certified Mediator Fluent in English and Spanish Military Qualifications - Ranger, Airborne (parachutist), Scuba (combat diver – US and Peru), Atomic Demolition and Munitions (ADM), and Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) weapons certified.
