ABOUT MICHAEL DOWNEY
I am a senior sport and business executive with more than 30 years of leadership experience across six sports and major consumer brands in Canada and internationally.I retired from full-time executive leadership in December 2023 after 16 years as President & CEO of Tennis Canada (across two terms). I am still actively involved in the sport system through board, advisory, and fractional leadership roles, including Chair of an advisory committee for a sport-focused strategy consultancy, and social enterprise - the greater, former Fractional CEO of Gymnastics Canada, and current Chair of its Board. I also serve as a volunteer board director with Canada Soccer and the Osten Victor Alberta Tennis Centre.Previously, I held CEO or C-suite roles with organizations including the Toronto Raptors & MLSE, Molson & Molson S&E, and the Lawn Tennis Association in England, alongside senior leadership roles at Labatt and Warner-Lambert affiliates in Canada and Indonesia. In 1980, I graduated from the Ivey Business School at Western University with an HBA. A 15+ year multiple cancer survivor, I am known for resilient, purpose-driven leadership and strong governance through periods of change.
