Experience
Assistant Principal
Bethlehem Area School District
Jul 2007 — Present · Bethlehem, PA, US
With 30 years of experience in public education, I am one of three Student Services Principals at Freedom High School, a large, highly diverse, urban high school in eastern Pennsylvania. Bethlehem Areas School District is the sixth largest district in the state of Pennsylvania. I am responsible for nearly 1/3 of our nearly 1800 students and I am directly involved in their course selections and career pathways in conjunction with two guidance counselors tied to my part of the alphabet. I am also a member of our district-wide Literacy Leadership team and provide professional development and guidance in those areas to the professional staff in my building. I am responsible for the supervision of approximately 35 or our teachers, counselors, and support staff that total more than 160 professionals. I am charge of the SAP (Student Assistance Program) for all students in my section of the alphabet, and along with professionals from our central office, as as well as outside organizations, I help connect students with programs that are appropriate for them. I oversee the world language program in four middle schools and two high schools. In additional, I have a strong background in Restorative Practices, trauma-informed instructional practices, Social Emotional Learning, and I possess a deep understanding about the effects mental health play in a student\'s success in high school. These are only a snapshot of the areas in which I have expertise since beginning my career in education in 1992. Finally, I am bilingual with a strong command of the Spanish language.
