ABOUT MICHAEL BROWN
I am an accomplished Manufacturing, HSE, and Supply Chain executive with 25 year track record of advancement and achievement in Milliken & Company (privately held and focused in chemicals, textiles, floor covering, and healthcare) and global specialty chemicals producer Albemarle Corporation (ALB). As of April 2022, I now serve as the Executive Vice President of Operations at Milliken & Company, overseeing the following corporate functions: HS & E, Planet Sustainability, Engineering, Supply Chain, Security, Operational Excellence (MPS), and Milliken’s consultancy (PSbyM). Milliken & Company is a privately held company headquarters in Spartanburg, SC, with global interests in Chemicals, Textiles, Floor Coverings, and Healthcare. Prior to April 2022, I was employed for 25 years by Albemarle Corporation, a publicly traded global specialty chemical company. I previously served as COO of Albemarle’s Bromine Specialties and Catalysts GBU\'s, representing ~$2B/yr in annual revenue. In this capacity, I led the manufacturing, sales and operations planning, customer service, and strategic procurement functions for both GBU\'s. Prior to this role, I led the corporation\'s global HSE and Manufacturing Excellence efforts, reporting to the CEO. Previously, I have managed union and non-union facilities in the US, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South America, supporting a GBU of over $1 Billion in annual revenue, 1800+ employees, and an annual manufacturing operating spend of $350MM. I have also managed a team sourcing the strategic raw material spend ($300MM/yr) for this GBU. Key areas of expertise include: people development, operational excellence, strong HSE stewardship, strategic negotiations, and site integration. The manufacturing assets produce products for the following industries: pharmaceutical (cGMP), custom ag, bromine and BFR, lithium, mineral flame retardant, and alkyl catalysts.
