ABOUT MICHAEL AWANAH ATAMAKIRA

At the intersection of cognitive science and AI, my academic background explores how machines comprehend, produce, and interact with human language. With over six years of research and IT analysis experience, and more than two years in the AI industry, I integrate a deep academic foundation in computer science, linguistics, and cognitive science with practical expertise in machine learning and deep learning for language technologies. My core focus lies in the evaluation and development of Large Language Models (LLMs), particularly in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and the design of human-aligned evaluation metrics. I combine insights from neurolinguistics, cognitive science, and advanced NLP techniques to develop systems that align more closely with human reasoning and linguistic nuance. Throughout my career, I have contributed to a diverse range of projects, including multimodal analysis of LLMs\' reasoning, social media analysis of users\' connections, and quality assessment of LLM output and logical reasoning. Currently at the Honda Research Institute, I contribute to a research scope focused on developing intelligent cognitive assistants to support individuals with memory impairments.
