ABOUT MICHAEL AMOO
I am a Stratigraphic Palynologist at PetroStrat, specializing in high-resolution biostratigraphic analysis to support the global energy sector. My technical expertise spans diverse geological frontiers, including the Jurassic of the North Sea (UK/Norway), the Cretaceous of the Equatorial Atlantic and Africa, and the Paleogene of Australasia. By integrating fossil pollen, spore, and dinocyst analysis with broader geological datasets, I provide critical insights into age-dating and palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, helping to de-risk exploration and optimise production for complex subsurface assets. My professional foundation is built on an extensive academic trajectory, including a PhD research position at Northumbria University (Newcastle, UK) focused on Eocene-Oligocene climate transitions, and dual Master’s degrees in Applied and Petroleum Micropalaeontology (University of Birmingham, UK) and Petroleum Geology (University of Perugia, Italy). This rigorous training has equipped me with a multidisciplinary skillset ranging from seismic interpretation and basin analysis through to petroleum geochemistry and sedimentology to biostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy. I bridge the gap between microscopic biological data and macro-scale tectonic and structural frameworks, offering a holistic perspective on basin evolution and reservoir characterisation. I am highly proficient in industry-standard softwares, including StrataBugs, Petrel, DecisionSpace, and IHS Kingdom, as well as analytical tools like R-Programming, Tilia, and ArcGIS. Throughout my career, I have successfully delivered high-impact projects across the Lower Congo Basin, the Tano Basin, Taranki Basin, Orange Basin, the Norwegian Continental Shelf etc. I am driven by a passion for geoscientific discovery and a commitment to advancing our understanding of the Earth’s history to solve the energy challenges of today and tomorrow.
