About Michael A. Hanschen
Michael is a Dallas based property development and homebuilding executive with more than 20 years of experience delivering large scale residential and mixed use projects across North America, Australia, and Asia. As Chief Operating Officer of Risland US, he leads land acquisition, entitlement, capital structuring, horizontal development, and vertical homebuilding teams focused on complex master planned communities.Michael works directly with local government, consultants, contractors, and joint-venture partners to navigate entitlements, special districts, infrastructure delivery, and homebuilding to take projects from raw land through to stabilized communities.Prior to joining Risland, Michael served as Director of Investment and Development at Matthews Southwest, a Dallas based international development firm with projects across the United States, Canada, and the UAE. Before that, he was based in Melbourne, Australia, where he played a key role in starting Point Polaris, a capital solutions, development advisory, and project management firm that grew to more than $1.3 billion under management.Prior to Australia, Michael spent a decade in mainland China, where he managed Jones Lang LaSalle’s Qingdao office as Managing Director, providing full-service real estate advisory and agency representation to institutional investors, developers, and occupiers.Michael is a graduate of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (AMDP), holds a degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Qingdao University, and a Diploma of Building and Construction Management. He has undertaken Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Estate Master Development Feasibility training courses. A sixth-generation Texan, Michael lives in Dallas with his wife and three children. He speaks fluent Mandarin, is conversant in Spanish, and remains deeply engaged in global real estate markets and capital trends.
