ABOUT MICHAEL A. DORATO

I am currently Sr. Vice President Discovery & Non-Clinical Development at MBX Biosciences, providing strategic scientific guidance in pharmacology and toxicology regarding discovery and non-clinical development programs and collaborations with academic laboratories and CROs. I am also President and Principal Consultant at M Dorato Associates, LLC, providing efficacy, safety and outsourcing consultation for the pharmaceutical industry. Formerly, I was Senior Vice President, Inotiv, and site leader of Inotiv Gaithersburg LLC, I also served as the Institutional Official responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable animal welfare laws, regulations and policies. I have been Executive Vice President, Smithers Avanza Toxicology Services, Vice-President and CSO, Global Discovery Services and Institutional Official (Covance) and Executive Director, Toxicology, Greenfield Laboratories site Head and Institutional Official (Eli Lilly and Co.). In these positions I have led global organizations in safety and efficacy, lead optimization, investigative and regulatory toxicology, discovery and late phase pathology, animal welfare, molecular and anatomical imaging, in vivo pharmacology (oncology, neuroscience, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, inflammation, renal, bone, receptor occupancy), Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology, veterinary medicine and model development. I have 45+ years of experience in; toxicology (from discovery to final registration) making and leading drug development decisions in various phases of pharmaceutical research and development; driving organizational growth; implementing change and continuous improvement; developing leaders; moving ideas from concept to practice; building partnerships and alliances; initiating, leading and managing CRO/industry relationships. I am a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, a member of the inaugural certification class for American Board of Toxicology and am a certified toxicologist through 2026, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology.
