As a Principal Engineer at TrainingPeaks, my mission is to help our teams and our customers succeed. I plan and integrate new systems, scale and modernize legacy systems, and evolve our software delivery practices. I help engineering leaders set goals and resolve obstacles, and I help engineering teams resolve the challenges of operating complex systems.I believe that how we build is just as important as what we build. Systems should be safe and easy to operate at scale, and teams should be empowered to do their best work. I am eager to apply the lessons learned from over 20 years of software delivery to challenging opportunities, especially in platform engineering and developer productivity engineering.Throughout my career I have been highly effective at solving technical challenges in complex full stack applications. I am well versed in complex systems on the client and on the server, and with the challenges of DevOps and Site Reliability. And, I have perspective gained from working over two decades in web technologies, and over ten years at TrainingPeaks, to understand how technology, systems, companies, and practices evolve over time.My current tech stack is C#.NET in AWS cloud, with SQL and DynamoDB databases, JavaScript / React front end, and Python for automation and testing. In the past I have also worked with Java and PHP. I have delivered many challenging client applications in JS. I am always eager to learn new languages and technologies as the web evolves.

   After a merger of two brands, I transitioned from engineering management into the role of Principal Engineer, to lead our efforts to scale our platforms and our technical capabilities. I plan and integrate new systems, scale and modernize legacy systems, and evolve our software delivery practices. I help engineering leaders set goals and resolve obstacles, and I help engineering teams resolve the challenges of operating complex systems.Architected patterns for implementing new microservices in.Net core, with event driven integration with our.Net Framework monolith, enabling our teams to deliver new features much faster.Led large API update and SQL data migration project to prevent system failure from integer ID overflow, including moving billions of rows of data, refactoring dozens of API endpoints and other classes, and coordinating across multiple internal and external teams to prevent data loss, minimize system performance impact and downtime, and update internal and external client applications.Refactored CI/CD processes and integration tests to stabilize our legacy monolith builds, and reduce end to end build and test cycle times from \'1 hours on a good day\' or \'4 hours if the queue is busy\' to \'always less than 25 minutes\'.Partner with SRE team to improve system stability and performance, improve on call engineering practices, and coordinate efforts and practices between application developers and SRE.Collaborate with other engineering leaders to define technical strategy, especially in the areas of system stability and developer productivity.
