The Clinical Genomics and Advanced Technologies (CGAT) Lab is a clinical diagnostics laboratory specializing in molecular techniques including PCR and next generation sequencing (NGS). In addition to offering clinical testing within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, the CGAT Lab has a full-time research staff and maintains a biorepository for residual clinical specimens and research specimens. The CGAT lab is led by a group of faculty members with academic appointments at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College.CGAT Summer Internships are offered to outstanding undergraduate, graduate or medical students with an interest in biomedical research and a desire to better understand the operations of a molecular diagnostics laboratory and clinical research. Summer interns will gain experience and contribute to the laboratory in two main ways: 1) Orientation and observations within the CGAT Lab to better understand the tests offered, both with respect to the technology and clinical applications and 2) Participation in at least one new or on-going CGAT project. These projects may include research, quality improvement, or assay validation work and will be carried out with assistance and oversight of a CGAT faculty member in collaboration with other members of the department that may include medical residents, fellows, laboratory technologist and bioinformaticians. Specific projects will be selected within the areas of genetics, molecular oncology, molecular infectious disease, and bioinformatics based on prior training/expertise and interests of the intern as well as the current needs and research focus of the CGAT lab and its faculty members.
