ABOUT MIA A.
Mia Albano is the founding curator for the Las Vegas Global Shapers hub (a project of the World Economic Forum) and the CEO, founder of the OFW History Project, and a Director for Demystifying Silicon Valley. Born and raised in Northern California, Mia Albano is a first-generation Filipino-American and alumna of UC Berkeley, where she earned her degree in Geography in May 2023. Her academic focus encompassed human geography, exploring cultural, historical, and economic landscapes that shape spatial dynamics, influence power structures, and dictate resource access. Mia\'s research spanned diverse topics such as the migration patterns of Filipino workers, African history and development, Filipino diaspora studies, global poverty reduction, economic development, rural agriculture, and food systems security. Her dedication and scholarly achievements were recognized with the Stronach Baccalaureate Prize in 2023 for her project titled \"They Only Remember Us at the End of the Month: Experiences of Former Overseas Filipino Workers,\" which utilized oral history, interviews, ethnography, and archival data to highlight the impact of Philippine labor policies on individuals and communities. Mia now focuses her work on using Lean Impact, Human Centered Design, Agile, and growth hacking to promote exponential scale solutions to global development problems. During her time at UC Berkeley, Mia studied global development at The London School of Economics, played bass in the university orchestra and jazz band, and presented her research at a Renaissance Weekend. Mia is committed to advancing social justice and supporting marginalized communities through her career in international development.
