It is great to be happy, but it is even better to bring happiness to others\". For as long as I can remember, I have found happiness in giving back to others. From giving glasses to people in the Philippines to seeing the smiling face of a family that that is taking home their baby that is now healthy after being born preterm, I enjoy helping people. During my 15 years as Director of Program Services, I engaged a team of community leaders and stakeholders to combat the rising number of preterm births. After 30 years of stead increase in preterm births, Nevada reached a high of 14.4%(over 5400 in 2006) of births that were earlier than 37 weeks, but by changing legislation, implementing community programs aimed at women who were high risk of having a preterm baby, and educating doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals on the latest information on preterm birth at the year conference, the preterm birth rate started to decrease. By 2014 the preterm birth rate in Nevada was 10.2%(slightly more than 3200 births). I am now looking forward to new and exciting challenges that await.
