About Michael Copeland

Throughout his career, Mike has collaborated with teams to help make cities into places that people love being in and living within. He unwaveringly aspires to increasing the quality of life for residents and inspiring action. With 20 years of experience between the fields of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture, he has guided renowned projects of various types and scales throughout the country. His expertise includes thought leadership, visioning, conceptual design and ideation, site planning and placemaking, as well as hardscape amenity and landscape architectural design. His extensive and diverse background allows him to effectively manage projects through the entire design process - while offering unique perspectives and project solutions along the way - from concept to implementation.In the role of Senior Urban Designer at LandDesign, Mike collaborates with teams on land development strategies, positioning and creative design solutions. He works with a wide variety of clients including Crescent Communities, Grubb Properties, Brookfield Residential Properties, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Rockefeller Group International, The St. Joe Company, Hall of Fame Village LLC, The Greenbrier, The Town of Breckenridge and Vail Resorts. He also leads planning and landscape design efforts for several Higher Education projects across North Carolina.Mike is an active member with Urban Land Institute - serving on the Regional Carolina Trends Council and Charlotte Initiatives Council - as well as with the American Society of Landscape Architects, and with SCUP. He also served as a Stakeholder Member for City of Charlotte’s Tree Canopy Action Plan (Committee of the Charlotte 2040 Comprehensive Plan), and is a Board Emeritus Member of the Congress for the New Urbanism (Colorado Chapter). Mike earned his Bachelor of Urban Planning degree from the University of Cincinnati, and currently resides in Charlotte with his wife and two boys.
