As part of the Electric sub-team at Leeds Gryphon Racing, I’ve been deeply involved in the study and implementation of our high-voltage (HV) inverter-motor-accumulator system for our electric Formula Student car.My role focused on understanding and integrating the key components of the EV drivetrain- I gained hands-on experience with 2-way AC synchronous motors, DTI HV-550/HV-850 inverters, and accumulator-inverter interfaces, guided by in-depth study of technical manuals and datasheets- Also developing working knowledge of Battery Management Systems (BMS) and safety protocols related to high-voltage systems- Learned to use the DTI software suite to configure and monitor inverter performance via USB, including setting parameters such as voltage/current limits and thermal thresholds- Worked with RLS RM44SI encoders, carefully matching encoder pinouts to motor connections based on datasheet analysis, and soldered connections using heat wraps to ensure high-reliability joints for motor feedback- Currently supporting the cooling system design for the inverter by determining temperature tolerances from manufacturer specifications and implementing preventive strategies to avoid thermal cutoff during race conditions.This role sharpened my understanding of high-voltage EV systems, embedded software tools, and precise hardware integration, reinforcing both my electrical engineering foundation and my practical hands-on skills within a high-performance and team-driven environment.
