ABOUT MERYEM ULKU

I’m a Fashion Designer with a strong background in both creative and technical aspects of the industry. I graduated from Istanbul Arel University with a degree in Fashion Design. My career started at the age of 17 with an internship at Arzu Kaprol Consultancy. After 9 months, I became a Design Assistant while continuing my university studies in the evenings. I later continued in the same role at Barer Holding, working on both design and production processes. At Barer Holding, I worked as a Technical Designer, focusing on military-grade textile products exported to countries such as Qatar, Uzbekistan, and Nigeria. I directed catalog shoots, attended international fairs, and regularly visited our Qatar office to represent the company. Since August 2024, I’ve been working in New York at Top Hat, a company specializing in corporate apparel. I started as a Technical Designer, and over time, I also began assisting the Head Designer and Owner. I’m now involved in nearly every part of the business—from design and development to client communication and production follow-up. I’m fluent in Turkish and speak English well. I adapt easily, work well in teams, and I’m always open to learning. I’ve also taken courses in Fashion Design and Marketing at the Academy of Art University, and improved my English at Foothill College in California. In addition, I run a small design business through Instagram, where I create custom pieces for clients. You can see my work at @biseytasarimm.
