About Mersedeh Akhoondan
I have 20 years of experience in corrosion control and condition assessment. My experience with HDR Engineering has been focused on the condition assessment of water/wastewater facilities and pipelines, LRT, solar, AC, reinforced concrete structures and coating projects. I also worked closely with HDR’s bridge/transportation groups on condition assessment and rehabilitation of existing bridges and development of corrosion protection plans (service life analyses) for new bridges. In recent years, I was fortunate to be involved with various Water Research Foundations projects (WRF 4618, WRF 4451, WRF 4473, WRF 4480) and co-authored several publications at AWWA and NACE as well as a book with NASEM on corrosion of buried steel. My past experience working at USF Corrosion Laboratory was focused on the design and management of corrosion testing programs (such as accelerated corrosion testing using electrochemical methods, materials performance testing, failure analyses, environmental corrosivity studies and metallographic evaluations) and computational modeling of corrosion systems. I am currently registered as Civil Professional Engineer in the States of Florida, New York and Texas (California is pending). I am AMPP CP4 cathodic protection specialist and BCI 1 (bridge coating inspector) certified.
