ABOUT MERLIN ALEX

I am a financial services professional with nearly a decade of experience in the industry, currently serving as Director, Operational Risk and Resilience at CIBC within the Risk Management function. As a recent MBA graduate from the Ted Rogers School of Management, I bring a unique combination of technical expertise and strategic thinking to my work.My career began at EY, where I gained valuable experience in finance before transitioning to Goldman Sachs, one of the world’s largest investment banks, where I spent 5 years in the third-party risk management team. After graduating in Canada, I worked as Third Party Risk Lead at Coast Capital Savings, one of the country\'s largest credit unions, before moving into the regulatory space with the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA). At FSRA, I played a key role in the implementation of the Risk-Based Supervisory Framework, with a focus on operational resilience, third-party risk, IT risk, and emerging risks.In my current role at CIBC, I focus on strengthening the bank’s oversight and management of operational risk exposures, shaping its approach to operational resilience, and continuing to build my expertise in operational risk management. I am passionate about finding creative solutions to complex problems, identifying and mitigating emerging risks, and helping organizations achieve resilience through strong risk management practices and regulatory compliance.
