I am programme leader for the MA Global Governance and Sustainable Development in the School of Law and Social Sciences. This MA is aimed at anyone with a suitable BA Honours (or equivalent) degree who is interested in addressing the big environmental and international development issues facing the world today. We cover a range of approaches to good governance and what that might mean in different contexts. We have expertise in environmental sustainability and ecosystem services; gender equality, human rights and poverty alleviation; global security and geopolitics; and international migration. Several of our modules are co-taught with industry partners and students can apply for 3-6 month placements as a part of the programme.My own research focusses on environmental decision-making in policy and planning. In specific, I am interested in the role of different types of values and knowledge within different decision making processes and the challenges that this complexity poses for achieving sustainable outcomes in practice. My recent funded research has looked at - urban greening, experienced livability and social justice (Juntti and Lundy 2017; Bradshaw et al. 2017; Juntti et al. 2021; Juntti and Ozsezer-Kurnuc 2023; Juntti et al. 2025)- the impact of rural land based investment on communities and environments at the European scale (Gallent et al. 2015; Gallent et al. 2021)- the possibility of sustainable productivism in large scale intensive agricultural production systems and lessons for governance (Juntti and Downward 2017).
