About Meredith Parrado
Dr. Parrado began her public health career in 2005 as a medical entomologist with the Sarasota County Health Department in Florida where she conducted field investigations on West Nile Virus vectors. She graduated with her Master of Science in Public Health in medical entomology from the military university, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, after completing research on malaria for the Department of Defense in Central America. She received her Doctor of Health Science from Drexel University where she conducted quantitative research on national public health and preparedness frameworks and their impact on community preparedness. Dr. Parrado came to CDC in 2009 as an epidemiologist and worked in NCEZID on bacterial special pathogen surveillance and anthrax preparedness activities. In 2012, she transferred to the Influenza Coordination Unit (ICU) where she worked as a Project Officer, and from 20••••16, served as the ICU Associate Director for Policy (Acting). From 20••••19, Meredith worked in CSTLTS where she managed, and led the evaluation of “Strong Systems, Stronger Communities” which is intended to promote performance improvement across STLT health departments. During the COVID-19 response, she served as the Deputy Lead of Strategic Coordination and was responsible for planning, standing up and managing the first CDC COVID-19 Clinical Call Center which responded directly to clinician or state, tribal, local or territorial health department inquiries about COVID-19, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Currently, she works in the Office of Readiness and Response and serves as the Deputy Branch Chief of the Response Analytics, Decision Support, and Surveillance (RADSS) branch. Her primary passion is the intersection of science and policy and utilizing this platform to improve public health impact.
