ABOUT MEREDITH ARMSTRONG

I am the Director of Economic Development for the City of Greater Sudbury, and I provide leadership and direction for the City’s business development, tourism development, entrepreneurship and investment attraction objectives. Our team oversees a diverse portfolio including support for small business, film and television, arts & culture, mining supply & services, advanced education, workforce development, immigration, grant programs, tourism, marketing and more. As part of this role, I also work closely with the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC), an independent not-for-profit organization tasked with providing strategic leadership for all aspects of economic development for the community. The GSDC acts as the economic development agency providing oversight for the Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot for Greater Sudbury, with staff coordinating the process and supporting the Community Endorsement Committee associated with the program. I enjoy working closely with partners at all levels of government, community agencies, educational institutions and private sector stakeholders to advance economic development goals. I am also a proud board member of Indigenous Tourism Ontario as well as the Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI) and play an active role in other regional initiatives.
