About Mena Mesiha

After finishing 11 years of medical and orthopedic surgical training in 2013, I have been working in Fall River, taking care of patients from throughout southeastern Massachusetts who come in with a wide spectrum of shoulder problems, ranging from simple self-resolving problems that need reassurance, to the most complex problems that may require surgical intervention.Over time, I have learned that it is necessary but not sufficient to have the technical skills to do my job. It is critical to do the injections and surgeries properly … but it is just as critical to understand patients and help them to make the best possible decisions with imperfect information.To better equip myself to face the complex decision making required of my job, I sought out formal training at Boston College, receiving a masters degree in 2021. Learning how to think more clearly about the world has helped me understand myself better, which equips me to be more helpful to others.In addition to a rewarding and satisfying career taking care of patients, I am fortunate to be a co-founder of Koinonia Ventures, a micro lending charity that Empowers Opportunity Through Fellowship for our business partners in Egypt and our supporters here in the United States. I am also the chair of the Board of Health in Sharon, MA and a co-chair of the Ethics Committee at the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons society.When all of these responsibilities are passed on to others in a decade or two, I look forward to retiring as an executive leadership coach. To that end, I am getting ICF certification from the ACT program at Brown University, so that I can be as prepared as possible to guide others through career transitions and big decisions.
