Helping Young Minds Manage Bereavement

ABOUT HELEN BOWLER

Did you realise that? children a year in the U.K. under the age of 18 lose a parent* I find those statistics shocking, and that isn\'t taking into account, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, friends or even pets. Can you imagine having to explain to your child what death is whilst you are grieving? I remember as a young child when my granddad died, my dad didn\'t stop crying. What was going on? My dad didn\'t cry. That felt so confusing, I didn\'t understand, all the grown ups got busy \'doing\', but no-one explained it all to me. Granddad had died and that was it, but what does that mean? What happens next? Will I see him again? Was it my fault? I found him. So let\'s talk about death. Not many people want to have this conversation, don\'t blame them, it\'s hardly the most jolly topic. It is going to happen though, from my own experience it is far easier to talk about death to children before we need to. I\'m not saying it won\'t be an emotional conversation, but I think it is one that\'s needed. If we can do it with a lighter heart than when we are in pain ourselves, I assure you, it\'s much easier. Memories Box can help. The box you receive has a plain design, but includes all the art supplies your child will need to customise it, to make it 100% theirs – a memory box to store countless keepsakes, a place to keep treasured items to help them remember the loved one they have lost. As well as the art supplies, the box includes: An age appropriate storybook, to help explain about death and grief, leading to healthy but emotional discussions. A craft activity to help calm the mind and provide some comfort through a difficult period. Additional contents are available to meet your needs. If a living family member is happy to, they could use the box with the child, making the mementos put inside even more special. They make a beautiful gift if you know of a family who are struggling with their grief? Families in care homes or those with dementia or a terminal illness. The boxes can offer some support, help, fun? If you would like to know more or need a box tweaked to suit your requirements or budget, please feel free to get in touch, no obligation, I\'m here to help. 07•••••••05 With love Helen x *figures from @winstonswish
