ABOUT MELVIN WHITE
I began my career in the service and I am an honorably-discharged veteran of the United States Air Force-enlisted (USAF).Following my time in the USAF, I completed my undergraduate studies and attended law school. I’ve spent my 25+ year legal career as an attorney/partner in varied law firms (Amlaw 100, boutique) committed to mitigating risks in complex business disputes for Fortune 500 companies including medical devices, technology and healthcare companies. I am passionate about taking a collaborative approach to understanding client business objectives, managing large teams of lawyers within budgets, leveraging technology to manage sizable caseloads, communicating highly technical concepts to diverse audiences and most importantly, persuading judges and arbitrators. I am Barrister in the Edward Bennett Williams American Inn of Court, an organization of judges, attorneys, and prosecutors dedicated to higher learning in all areas of white-collar criminal law.Mentoring the next generation of lawyers and advancing diversity in the legal profession are two of my core commitments and are embedded in my daily work. Within my LinkedIn profile, I encourage you to look at my publications covering topics such as diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, approaches to mentorship and advancing and retaining female lawyers. In 2007, I served not only as President of the District of Columbia Bar but also an Inaugural Commissioner to the American Bar Association Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. For 20+ years, I was as a member of the Board of Directors for the Washington Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. I received a B.A. from Morehouse College and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law School. In my spare time, I enjoy people, reading about ancient cultures, travel, great writing, yoga, meditation, music and a good dance beat.
