ABOUT MEL SHIH
I help organizations design digital experiences that actually work, for their customers and for their business.Over the past 22+ years, I’ve led UX, UI, and ecommerce strategy across B2B, B2C, education, healthcare, and government, partnering with teams to turn complex systems into intuitive, high-performing digital products. My work sits at the intersection of human-centered design, business strategy, and technical reality, where good ideas either become usable systems or quietly fail.I’m the co-founder of Brain & Code, a UX and ecommerce consultancy recognized as a Clutch Global Leader for Magento in 2024. Through that work, I’ve had the opportunity to lead and advise on large-scale redesigns, platform migrations, and optimization initiatives, from improving product findability and navigation on enterprise ecommerce platforms, to modernizing complex B2B storefronts and internal systems.A few examples of what that looks like in practice- Helping a global B2B manufacturer redesign and reposition their ecommerce experience to support new digital revenue channels and improve self-serve adoption- Leading the UX and information architecture strategy for ecommerce platforms with products, focusing on findability, conversion, and operational efficiency- Partnering with marketing, product, and engineering teams to align user experience with campaign strategy, platform capabilities, and long-term scalabilityMy background in psychology shapes how I approach this work. I care deeply about how people perceive, interpret, and move through systems, and I design with attention to cognition, behavior, and context, not just screens. I’m also a Certified Usability Analyst from Human Factors International and a PMP, which means I’m as comfortable with research, systems thinking, and stakeholder alignment as I am with wireframes and interfaces. What I’m most interested in is not just designing better interfaces, but helping organizations make better decisions about what to build, why to build it, and how it fits into the larger ecosystem of people, processes, and technology.I enjoy working with teams who are thoughtful, ambitious, and curious, and who care about building products that are useful, usable, and meaningfully better than what came before.
