About Melissa Rice
Melissa is committed to improving recovery from climate disasters in frontline communities and the management of natural resources worldwide. She has worked and studied at the intersection of conservation and development for nearly 10 years, ever since visiting a tiger reserve and the indigenous community that co-manages it. She returned to India to live with and learn from more than 200 indigenous families, writing a thesis on the impact of forest tenure reform under Dr. Arun Agrawal. As Director of Operations at India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF), she oversaw more the an 40 development projects in India and Nepal and helped increase donations by over 90% in two years. She hopes to contribute her skills to an environmental NGO, research institute, think tank or development agency.
