About Melissa N.

My hands enjoy crafting intelligent user experience and product copy, and my brain is tickled by the complexities of UX design and content strategy. I come from a traditional NYC book publishing background, trained to work in the tiniest of details before anything is cemented in print. I transitioned to digital content in SF before taking the scenic route to UX- The Scenic Route: I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in English and Ethnic Studies, despite my parents’ cries of inevitable starvation. After 3 years in publishing and inevitable starvation, I left New York in search of food and started clocking in from 9 to 5 as a Social Media Specialist and Content Writer for a large e-commerce in Texas, writing marketing copy and editing online content. The hunger persisted, however, so I left Texas in search of new foods, finding my way to the culinary mecca of San Francisco––a gem of a place where even the pickiest of palates can be pleased. In the Bay Area, I worked as a writer, magazine editor, and production designer in digital content marketing for food magazine, VegNews, and local food company, The Fruit Guys. After 2 years of paying San Francisco rent, forever foraging for foreign foods, I relocated to Seoul, South Korea: the land of all things deliciously fermented, making the transition from writing and editing the English word to teaching it. When I wasn\'t eating my way through traditional food markets and chasing new flavors, I taught English grammar and writing at a public elementary school in Seoul. After 4 years of teaching English abroad, I returned to Texas to work as a Product Copywriter on the Design Team at Under Armour, focusing on UX writing and content strategy for MapMyRun and MyFitnessPal, before accepting my current role as a Content Designer at Indeed.
