Berlin, DE

M:Soundtrack was founded by Melissa Perales in 2004 at Schokoladen Mitte, born from a deep love of music and a desire to create a platform where international and local talent share one stage. Each event is curated as an experience—a unique soundtrack for both artists and audiences.Rooted in Berlin’s independent scene, M:Soundtrack has always championed emerging voices, offering space for experimentation and growth beyond commercial pressures. It has long prioritized diversity—well before it became a buzzword—and continues to support artists who often struggle to access early-stage opportunities. Its true power lies in building community and nurturing talent. As a curator and promoter, Melissa sees it as her mission to spot and support emerging artists, helping them grow toward larger stages while also engaging in broader conversations around gender equity and decolonizing the music scene.

ABOUT MELISSA PERALES

I’m someone who thrives on challenges—because that’s when ideas flow and creativity kicks in. I love connecting dots: coming up with concepts and building teams with people who tick in similar ways and believe in following through.Originally from Chicago, I studied film at Columbia College before moving to Berlin in 1995. I launched the Circles of Confusion Film & Video Festival (1995–1998), which ran at Volksbühne and Babylon-Mitte, and later opened a restaurant called Urban Comfort Food (UCF). In 2003, my lifelong passion for music led me into booking and promoting live shows and events. Since then, I’ve worked as a curator, promoter, consultant, and community advocate in Berlin’s independent and transcultural music scene.I founded M:Soundtrack in 2004, and co-founded Music Pool Berlin, where I continue to consult musicians and creatives. I spent 10 years co-curating Torstraßen Festival, launched We Make Waves and Night School Berlin, and currently curate the month long free open-air festival Durchlüften, at the Humboldt Forum. In 2024, I launched Café Chocolat, a concert series uplifting Black and Brown musicians in Berlin. I also co-run Supertape-Berlin, a music supervision and consulting company that lets me merge my passions for sound and image.Whether I’m advising artists, moderating panels, DJing, curating a festival, or just throwing a spontaneous dinner party with what’s in the fridge—I’m always working to build spaces that foster connection, creativity, and equity.Let’s transform the music and culture world together—one idea, stage, or song at a time.
