ABOUT MELISSA MCMILLAN
NOTE: The opinions expressed through my activity on LinkedIn are strictly my own and do not reflect opinions of the companies or organizations I work with.Have you ever experienced burnout or overwhelm in life or at work? Are you struggling to figure out how to balance family and your career while also trying to take care of yourself?I know those feelings well. I was there a few years ago, during Covid, when I experienced an existential/mid-life crisis on top of job loss during a pregnancy on top of losing a very dear loved one to cancer on top of helping my toddler navigate a scary illness. It was all too much, and even though I\'d spent years working towards an important career change during that time, I no longer felt connected to anything. Here\'s what I know now: many workplaces today maintain a \"burn and churn\" culture where the top leaders at those companies only care about maximizing profits and providing value to shareholders. While it\'s not a problem that business make a profit, it IS a problem when decision-makers don\'t prioritize the health and well-being of the employees who facilitate the company\'s success. I talk to people all the time who suffer from burnout, and you know what I\'ve discovered? We\'re not alone. According to HR Management Company iSolved\'s 2023 Annual Trends Report, 65% of employees say they experienced burnout during the year. That number? It\'s not going down. While I wish I could convince these leaders to do better for their employees, instead I\'d like to work to help educate YOU: the employee barely treading water, doing their best to not drown in the overwhelm. My goal is to teach you the tools you need to heal and step back into a position of power through self-awareness, unlearning toxic conditioning, and figuring out what you need to thrive. Follow me for content on burnout and how to make your career more meaningful along the way. For now, I\'ll leave you with this quote:“Everything can be taken from a [person] but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”-Viktor Frankl
