Melissa Winston is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the states of Missouri & Kansas. With a Bachelor\'s Degree in education and many years of work with teens and families in the non-profit sector, Melissa found herself feeling compelled to help more but not having the tools to do so. She went back to school to get her degree as an MFT from Capella University and has been working in various treatment settings for the past 15 years. She has a combined total of 24 years of experience working with teens and families. Melissa specializes in work with adolescents, parents, and families. Using a mix of systems theories, Melissa works to meet clients where they are to help them find their own solutions to the problems they are facing. Therapy should be a safe space to process and be honest about whatever your\'e thinking and feeling without judgement. Once we feel heard and seen, then we have the courage to go towards the healing we long for in our lives. Melissa believes that all people have the capacity to change, and that as we each work toward our own individual wholeness, we can then have deeper, more meaningful relationships. There is hope for even the most broken and painful relationships - if the individuals are willing to do the work on themselves. Melissa is also a licensed MFT and AAMFT Approved Supervisor in the states of Missouri and Kansas and offers clinical supervision for training Marriage and Family Therapists. Melissa serves on: the Missouri Board of Marital & Family Therapists, the AAMFT Missouri Family Team as the co-chair, the University of Central Missouri MFT steering committee, and is committed to advancing the MFT profession locally and at the state and national levels. Outside of therapy, Melissa loves to decorate, to hang out with her husband and two young adult sons (and two ornery Havanese doggos), and to spend time with her community. She is also passionate about organizational leadership and community development and serves on the Board of Directors as Secretary for the Grain Valley Chamber of Commerce and Administrative Director of the Blue Springs Rotary Club.
