About Melissa Wackerle

Growing up riding farm ponies in rural Missouri, I was inspired by nature at an early age. I directed my early career on sustainability which helped me understand the deep connections between our built and natural worlds. I furthered my skills earning a Masters in Sustainability and Development from Southern Methodist University. I\'m now focused on integrating nature and built environment for human health, ecosystem biodiversity, and equitable economic opportunity. I am a Sustainability & Resilience Strategist with extensive experience in planning, design and construction. My background in architecture and construction enhances my experience harnessing thought leadership into practical resources, programs, and policy guidance. I pair a technical understanding of issues with a collaborative approach to help communities and organizations find new, resourceful solutions to the challenges of a changing climate. Living in a variety of rural, suburban, and urban contexts throughout my life has given me the unique ability to relate to many different constituents and tailor the benefits of sustainable and resilient design strategies to their unique needs. This experience helps me communicate the value of solutions to constituents in terms term that align with their personal values.
