About Melissa Jiayi Sun
As a first year engineering student at the University of Alberta, I am exploring potential paths going into either software engineering or environmental engineering. I’ve lived in many different cities in my life, but I am proud to call the San Francisco Bay Area and Las Vegas as my homes. My passion for environmental science and sustainability motivates my interest in the environmental engineering path. I am also a professional graphic designer, modeling diverse 3D visualizations using software like Blender, Fusion360, Adobe Photoshop, and Procreate. My skills also extend to computer programming and user interface design; I can code proficiently with Python, Java, JavaScript, and I am currently learning C++. Beyond engineering and design, I am an accomplished violinist with experience in chamber ensembles and symphonic orchestras. I also compose music for various events. I am also a USFS gold medalist, having completed all my MIF figure skating tests and competed for nearly a decade.Previously, I interned with the US Consulate in Calgary, contributing to political and economic reports on Canada-United States relations.
