ABOUT MELISSA PATEL

I am a macro-political economist and infrastructure architect designing and delivering financial and public systems—fiscal architecture, regulatory frameworks, and market rails—that enable inclusive, scalable outcomes. My work spans sovereign institutions, fintech, public health, and global development, translating macroeconomic insight into institutional tools and production-grade infrastructure deployed in regulated environments.I previously served as Head of Research & Data Science at the UK Treasury and City of London’s Centre for Finance, Innovation & Technology (CFIT), where I led the UK’s national Open Finance and macro-financial infrastructure agenda with regulators and industry. By prioritizing high-leverage datasets, consent architectures, and interoperability standards, this work improved consumer access to fairer termed credit, strengthened SME liquidity, and expanded participation in regulated credit markets—contributing to faster underwriting and stronger consumer protection at scale. Across highly regulated domains—including finance, biopharma, and medical technology—I align policy, data, and product layers to build adaptive systems that perform under constraint. I have designed sovereign risk buffers and fiscal-stabilization mechanisms to strengthen countercyclical capacity, built capital-access frameworks enabling underserved and cross-border market participation, and delivered cross-jurisdictional regulatory systems that improve supervisory coherence and measurably expand financial inclusion at institutional and market levels.
