ABOUT MELISSA NEWSOME
Graduate Assistant and PhD student in Public Health at the University of South Florida, specializing in maternal and child health equity. I support evaluation of Florida’s Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems (ECCS) and Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) programs, applying skills in epidemiology, data analysis, and program reporting. My research focuses on how prenatal care teams in Florida use and experience social determinants of health (SDOH) screening tools, examining workflow, administrative burden, and approaches to connecting patients with resources. I employ mixed methods to investigate provider decision-making and barriers to identifying and referring social needs, to enhance the effectiveness of patient-centered, coordinated care in diverse and resource-limited settings.ORCID:
