About Melissa J. Moore
Distinguished Professor and Industry Executive with extensive expertise in post-transcriptional regulation of mammalian gene expression. After 23 years running an academic research laboratory (19 of them as an HHMI Investigator), Melissa moved to industry in 2016 to become the CSO of Platform Research at Moderna. Starting in 2021, her main focus became communicating the science of mRNA medicines both internally and to the outside world. Her 2022 TED talk was among the 10 most watched that year. After 6 1/2 years at Moderna, Melissa retired in March 2023. She currently holds multiple board seats and engages in the creation and growth of new companies in the bioinformatics and mRNA medicine space. She is also an avid poker player.Dr. Moore is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences (2017), a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2019), and recipient of the RNA Society Lifetime Achievement Award (2021). Other accolades include being named one of the 100 Fiercest Women in Biotech (2018), to the PharmaVoice 10•••19) and one of the 100 people transforming business by Business Insider (2022).
