About Melissa Vasquez

Being a positive, productive person in my family, my team and my community is important to me. I started my career as a Scientific Programmer at Lockheed Martin and really enjoyed the creation part of the job. As I matured in the role, my organization, leadership and nurturing traits shown through that I was more valuable as a manager of people than just my individual technical skillset. I currently manage Visa’s Real-time Settlement Interface (RSI) Development team in Austin, Texas. RSI is a part of Clearing and Settlement systems that clear, settle and deliver transactions to financial institutions worldwide. I have assembled and led talented software engineers in multidisciplinary teams working on a range of complex projects at Visa (10 years), Overwatch Systems (14 years), and Lockheed Martin (5 years). I wholeheartedly believe that cultivating a diverse team with complementary skillsets and strengths creates a productive and healthy professional environment. I want my entire team to feel valued so I actively participate in many activities and encourage the entire team to participate in activities like community volunteering, Women’s Conferences, cultural celebrations, and Pride Parades. As a resource manager for a highly visible/important team contributing directly to Visa’s bottom line, we bring in talent and help them develop. We have grown the Austin office from about 40 to in 10 years and the Austin project team from 4 to 18 developers. Visa is a well-known and well-respected ethical business. I have been in Austin over 30 years and love the uniqueness and diversity in every way of the city. I was instrumental when the Visa site opened to create and maintain that same feeling. I helped lead the Employee Engagement team when the site opened to set the tone and have stayed involved in many activities since then. My peers describe me as a hard worker, team player and collaborator. I am a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and a current member of Visa’s Austin Women in Technology, Pride and Latinx Connect. As of 2022, I am serving as the Latinx Connect North America Partnerships Chair. In this role, I will propose, monitor and maintain key partnerships with internal and external stakeholders that help support and advance the overall ERG’s mission and vision. I have a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin. A native Texan, I have two daughters and over thirty years of marriage with my husband Orlando.
