ABOUT MELISSA BOUTAGY

I\'ve treated dancers backstage on Broadway tours and helped physical therapists across a multi-site organization reclaim time, clarity, and confidence in their work. A relentless commitment to clinical excellence — at every level of the system. My foundation is built in the clinic. As a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) with advanced training in dry needling and manual therapy, I spent years immersed in complex orthopedic cases, geriatric and pediatric care, lymphedema treatment, and the specialized world of dance and performance medicine. Working as a backstage physical therapist for touring Broadway productions — including Kinky Boots, Annie, and Motown the Musical — deepened my belief that exceptional PT is equal parts science and craft. Those years on the clinical floor shaped everything I bring to compliance work today. As Clinical Compliance Officer at Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Centers, I work at the intersection of quality care and operational integrity. My focus is on reducing the administrative burden on clinicians so they can do what they do best — treat patients. In practice, that looks like conducting quality checks, rolling out EMR and clinical platform integrations, developing and implementing improvement plans, delivering educational offerings across sites, and building practical, people-first action plans that are built to last. What sets my approach apart is the personal connection I bring to the organization. Compliance doesn’t need to feel punitive, burdensome, or top-down. With today’s technology supporting clinicians in the administrative parts of their role, it’s more important than ever that we understand the why behind each process. When clinicians understand the purpose—whether it’s documentation standards, coding expectations, or building a treatment plan—technology becomes an asset rather than an obstacle. Documentation improves, care quality rises, and the overall experience strengthens for both patients and providers. My goal has always been the same, whether I’m in the clinic or the boardroom: to support clinical excellence, reduce friction, and help great clinicians do their best work.
