ABOUT MELISSA BIANCA AMORE

Melissa Bianca Amore is a leading curator, art critic and philosopher based between New York, Melbourne and Paris. Amore’s research is the study of phenomenology and perception in relation to contemporary sculpture and large-scale environments. A highly commended critic and essayist, she has published widely and authored exhibition catalogues since 2005 with notable features including,\"The Painting of History\" on German artist Anselm Kiefer;\"Information As Architecture\" on American multidisciplinary artist Doug Aitken, and \"The Mind As Object\" on Polish-German installation artist Alicja Kwade. With over twenty years’ experience working across curatorial and publications with cultural institutions, museums and non-profit organisations, Amore’s contributions to arts discourse are informed by her expansive dynamic practice. She is a regular contributor for The Saturday Paper, Melbourne Artlink Magazine, Australia; BOMB Magazine, US and Ocula, UK. Amore has been a Thesis Respondent for MFA Fine Arts Graduate Exhibitions, Parsons School of Design, The New School, NYC and Visiting Critic for Residency Unlimited, NYC; Art Omi Artists Residency, NYC and Un/Mute, European Union National Institute for Culture, NYC. Amore serves on various boards and has been a US judge for various awards including, the Milčik Award, Montenegro; the Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos Award, Serbia and Artlink Magazine editorial board. Amore is the Co-Founding Director of Re-Sited, NYC, which examines the intersections of site, sculpture and perceptual space. She has had several leadership roles, in the US, Europe and Australia. Her curated projects have included \"Sites of Knowledge\" featuring artists Richard Artschwager, Henri Chopin and Michael Rakowitz and \"Threefold\" a solo exhibition on Natasha Johns-Messenger, and assisted Locks Gallery for \"The Line of Optics — Between Perception and Architecture\" in the work of Edna Andrade for ADAA, New York and Structures of Abstraction for The Armory, New York which included artists Lynda Benglis, Joanna Pousette-Dart and David Row. She was also the Curatorial Advisor for a Public Art Site where she shortlisted Jeppe Hein, Larry Bell and Sarah Oppenheimer. Awarded Masters of Fine Arts (Art Criticism and Writing), School of Visual Arts, New York; B.A Philosophy, History of Ideas; B.A Creative Writing (Literature) and Art History (Minor) 2005, Deakin University, Melbourne, graduated with distinction and Gertrude Contemporary Emerging Writers Program in 2006.
