About Melissa Berkowitz

At Clemson University, I am pursuing a dual degree in Economics (B.A.) and Political Science (B.S.), with a concentration in Political Economy. I strive to understand the intricate and fast-paced world of how politics and economics work together in society. After my graduation, I will be attending Georgetown\'s Walsh School of Foreign Service for my master\'s in International Refugee and Migration Studies. I am ambitious and driven to serve my community through multiple leadership roles that engage with the local community. I have developed skills in areas outside my majors that contribute to my priorities of business professionalism, communication, leadership, and analytical thinking. With a passion for social development and policy, I am motivated to be part of policy initiatives that advocate for effective change in promoting humanitarian rights on a daily basis. By overseeing and facilitating growth at a non-profit in Clemson, South Carolina, I have been dedicated to improving the lives of students, educators, and parents in Title I schools in Oconee County. Over the past two years, I have developed new initiatives while maintaining the success of our ongoing programs to improve the non-profit. Spearheading the development of this non-profit and its growth has provided skills in economic and social development, communications, management, and finance that are necessary for public development. Furthermore, I lead research within the Political Science department looking into aspects of International Juvenile Justice programs, am a national winner for Clemson\'s Model UN program, active in overseeing strategic communications and philanthropy efforts for Pi Beta Phi, developing the pledge education program for Kappa Alpha Pi (pre-law and government fraternity), and remain as a pillar of service to the local community. Through my undergraduate experiences, I have gained valuable insight and knowledge to jumpstart my future career in human development. I look forward to completing my degree at Clemson while pursuing graduate education at Georgetown University.
