About Melissa Anderson
I have been with FEMA for 17 years. Before joining Reailience Leadership as a Senior Advisor and Communications Leader, I served briefly as the Communications Advisor for the Hazard Mitigation Directorate Leadership, building from my role as the Communications Branch Chief in the Hazard Mitigation Assistance Division. I believe as a nation, we must reduce risk and strengthen our communities with a whole-of-government approach. I am an advocate of the National Flood Insurance Program and the role it plays in providing federally-backed flood insurance to all properties, including those with the highest risk. I’ve had many opportunities over the course of my career of which I’m the most proud of including spearheading the development of the professional flood insurance designation, the Associate in National Flood Insurance (ANFI®) and spending time helping survivors get the help they need to recover from natural disasters. I am grateful and honored to serve the public in my offcial capacities, as well as volunteering for the past seven years with our Fairfax Challenger Baseball League players and families. Throughout all of life’s challenges, my FEMA and Challenger League Family have given meaning and purpose to my life and I am truly blessed.
