About Melisa García
Graduate from CSU Monterey Bay with a B.A. in Collaborative Health and Human Services, concentration in social work. I am a graduate student at the University of Massachusetts Global for a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. I have a passion for medical social work and a desire to work with a diverse client population. While I am interested in working in a hospital, clinic, or nursing or rehabilitation facility, I am open to all social work settings! I have experience working with at-risk youth and their families, where I learned the importance and implementation process of trauma-informed care. I also have experience with medical social work in the hospital and remote hospice settings, where I acquired the ability to work with diverse and vulnerable populations. Commonly worked with populations included those with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, older adults, end-of-life/comfort care patients, and general care patients. Skilled in psychosocial assessments, risk mitigation, resource navigation and connection, supportive counseling, data analysis, systems management, and overall holistic and person-first care. While completing my MSW program, I am substitute teacher in grades K-12. I am also a clinical social work intern at Sun Street Centers providing therapy services and assisting with case management.
