Experience
Adjunct Instructor of Aviation
Aug 2015 — Present · Glendale, CA, US
The Pilot Training Program program offers in-depth ground-school courses in a college-level academic format at Glendale Community College\'s main campus. These courses count toward an available Associates Degree, as well as providing qualification to take the Federal Aviation Administration Knowledge examination. All professors in the program at the college (myself included) possess the qualifications to teach at the college level, as well as AGI (Advanced Ground Instructor) certification from the Federal Aviation Administration. In the Fall semester, I regularly teach a course in Federal Aviation Regulations & Communications, casually referred to as \"FAR/Comm,\" and a course in Aviation Human Factors in the Spring semester. Following the significant change of pace, resources, and structure following the events of the past two years, I look forward to reestablishing student internships, labs, and special programs as things open back up. After serving as a faculty advisor to the college\'s Aviation & Space Club for a few years, I am now division representative for the DEIA Academic Senate committee. The program strongly encourages students to enroll in the flight labs, where they train with CFIs (Certified Flight Instructors) to pass Federal Aviation Administration practical examination. This flight training is done at Whiteman Airport (WHP) in Pacoima using college-owned Cessna 172-model aircraft, thereby allowing students to apply for financial aid to help subsidize their training.Although I teach exclusively in the classroom (or rather remotely, these days) I was the first female instructor in the Pilot Training Program, since the Aviation Department was founded at Glendale Community College in 1929.
