ABOUT MELANIE TAMAYO
I am a product compliance professional specializing in chemical regulations, food contact, and sustainability. In my current role as a Chemical Compliance Advisor at Sherwin‑Williams, I lead TSCA compliance efforts, including Section 6 rule tracking and implementation, new chemical submissions, and reporting such as PFAS Section 8(a)(7).One of my frequently used skills is regulatory research. For example, a customer in one of my previous roles was looking for complete coverage of their products against all applicable US sate legislations. Given that, I and two team members researched all existing US state regulations and documented them. I subsequently consolidated all restricted substance requirements into a matrix identifying most stringent requirements for each chemical class. This enabled the operational team to test client\'s submissions against all US state requirements utilizing the matrix for easy test application.Apart from my regulatory work, I also have a rich experience in operational management and optimization. When taking over the lab management in one of my previous roles, I observed that the team was missing structure and ownership of tasks. I worked with the team to understand the processes and created a matrix detailing each task of the lab process and assigning main as well as back up responsibilities to each task. This helped to create an environment of ownership and increased the lab\'s ability to meet project deadlines. Areas of expertise: TSCA | CPSC | CA Prop 65 | REACH | Persistant Organic Pollutants (POP)| PFAS | Flame Retardants | FDA | Health Canada | EU Regulation (EC)1935/2004 | EU Regulation 10/2011 | LFGB | Recycled Materials | Operations Management | Leadership
