About Melanie Richard

Highly experienced Human Resource Professional with 21 + years of experience working in the field. I have experience ranging from a small startup business to a large corporate retail chain with over 187 retail stores. I moved to Colorado after seeking a better work/life balance and have never looked back. When I moved to Colorado, I found a position with the Aspen Skiing Company in the Ski Resort Industry for 13 + years and Hospitality for 5 years within the same company for a total of 25+ years. I have experience in all facets of Human Resources, including recruiting (domestic and international), employment, benefits/payroll, employee relations, state, local and federal employment law, training, employee housing, and much more. I was promoted to Human Resources Director of Mountain Operations in September of 2010 and worked with Aspen Skiing Company for another 9.5 years. Within that period, we sought to automate our processes within our HR department, which allowed us to continue to ensure employment law compliance while automating and improving our internal processes and employee and candidate experiences. After a long and fulfilling career in Human Resources, I joined Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) in April of 2018 where I have reshaped my life goals and priorities to work for a non-profit vs. a for-profit corporation. RMI\'s mission is to transform global energy use to create a clean, prosperous, and secure low-carbon future. It is a global think-and do-tank that focuses on market-led, business-driven ways to advance the energy transition. It is integral to me that I feel I am contributing and making a difference in my work. My contribution in my role at RMI helps support the global leaders that our Sr. Leadership engages, the RMI leaders themselves, RMI managers, and fellow co-workers who possess the same passions, values, and collaboration goals that I have. The culture allows for autonomy, flexibility, and a sense of overall inclusiveness. My definition of work-life balance has been modified to work-life integration where I can work hard and still enjoy and appreciate time with my family, friends, and Colorado\'s pristine environment more than I ever have. My decision to move here over 20 years ago has allowed me to continuously grow as a person, fulfill my goals in both career choice and lifestyle as well as my thirst for unbridled adventure. More importantly, my experiences here have helped me understand and appreciate the word gratitude and has humbled me as a human being.
