ABOUT MELANIE GRIEGOLIET

As a first-generation college student, I often reflect on how much I could have benefited from the robust career coaching and resources now becoming more widely available at the university level. This personal experience is the driving force behind my passion for career development in higher education—I\'m committed to being the support system I wished I had as a student. My journey in higher education began during my own college years. I quickly became deeply involved, working as a student in admissions and student activities. This early exposure sparked my curiosity about the diverse operations within a university, revealing that higher education itself could be a fulfilling career path. I truly found my niche as an Orientation Leader, where I thrived on welcoming new students and their families. Ensuring everyone felt supported and equipped with the information needed to succeed became a core passion.Although I explored corporate roles and gained valuable experience at two companies, these experiences ultimately affirmed my deep-seated desire to work in higher education. I needed to step into the corporate world to truly appreciate where my passion and daily fulfillment lay. Now, at Northern Illinois University (NIU), I\'ve had the privilege of contributing to student success in various capacities. Initially, I spearheaded our Week of Welcome programming and developed curriculum for University 101/201 courses within our orientation office. Currently, in Career Services, I find immense satisfaction in overseeing our 3-credit elective course, UNIV 301 Career Accelerator, in partnership with Braven. I also manage our career readiness program, Huskie Career Launchpad via Suitable, provide one-on-one career counseling and develop and deliver engaging workshops and information sessions for our entire campus community. My goal is to empower students with tools and strategies to navigate their career paths with confidence, just as I navigate mine.
