About Melanie Freeland

Melanie was named AIACC Young Architect in 2017. She is a licensed Architect, LEED BD+C certified, an an active member of the AIA. Her portfolio includes over a dozen built projects in the US and overseas in a variety of scales and program types. Melanie brings an infectious enthusiasm for creativity and diligent work ethic to RCH Studios. She led the implementation of Fig Jam, Mayor Garcetti\'s Great Streets Challenge Grant winner. The event was featured in the Huffington Post among other publications and partnered Gensler LA with USC, Occidental, LA Walks and other community groups. Melanie was invited by Mayor Garcetti to develop and present a project for Engage LA at the Getty Foundation. Melanie is currently serving as Co-Chair for the WiA AIA|LA. She has been invited to speak at women empowerment events including Lady Boss at the Ace Hotel and AIA|LA Powerful 2017. Melanie is enthusiastic about mentoring and promoting a culture that fosters growth in and outside of the studio. Outside of work, Melanie is a highly visible member of LA dedicated to increasing the professions outreach. A 18-year Angeleno, Melanie is passionate about the role of design and the pedestrian in the city. She serves on the AIA/LA Political Outreach Committee and have been featured in the LA Times, KPCC, Curbed, and Streetsblog, promoting alternative forms of transportation and infrastructure. She recently co-authored a piece for the AIA/LA newsletter, Architecture and Civic Engagement, A Call to Action. In May, she was elected to the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council to represent the community of 60k plus residents. Outside of the office, you might find her exploring the city on two wheels with her husband and young son.
