About Melanie Chaffin

Experienced professional with a demonstrated knowledge and expertise working in higher education in the field of international education. Former Coordinator for International Admissions at Georgia Southern University. Responsible for international credential evaluations, recruiting internationally, and for processing all international undergraduate applications. As a Senior Advisor at Texas Tech University, I assisted international graduate applicants from across the globe who were interested in earning Master\'s or Doctoral degree from Texas Tech University. I worked with students from India, China, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Iran, Saudi Arabia, France, Iceland, and Denmark to name a few. My role as Senior Advisor was to evaluate international credentials through our in-house credential evaluation service. It was my job to determine degree equivalency and GPA\'s for potential graduate applicants. I also served as a Designated School Official (DSO), which through SEVIS I prepared official immigration documents including I-20\'s. I loved working as a DSO. I also enjoyed assisting students with the immigration process for education purposes. My job was to help assist students with navigating the sometimes complex VISA process and to provide guidance and support. This process could sometimes be challenging and I enjoyed being able to help assist students so that they could pursue their dreams of higher education. I have a passion for international education. I also have really enjoyed the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the field through travel and through participation in NAFSA.
